Was  there a conspiracy to develop neuroanesthesiology as a subspecialty? You bet! Were there co-conspirators? Manyincluding names like Michenfelder, Albin, Marshall, Matjasko, Shapiro, and Harp. Did it work? So far!

This is quoted from John Hartung’s 2008 review of the good connection between SNACC and JNA and it still seems apropos to 2012..  This year is the 40th anniversary of the inception of SNACC.  The society has faced challenges over the years but has adhered to its mission and is now ready for its celebration of forty years….our Ruby anniversary.

As part of our preparations for this celebration we have put together this 40th anniversary web page.  It’s full of history about SNACC and you should enjoy perusing the material assembled.  Knowing where we have been is essential to knowing where we are to go in the future…..

In addition, this is the place to enter your “SNACC story” and read those of your colleagues.  How did you get into neuroanesthesia?  How or why did you join SNACC.  Was anyone important in your choices?  Please tell us.  Your story can vary from a couple sentences to a full essay.  Sol Soriano is overseeing this and you can direct any questions to him at  Sulpicio.Soriano@childrens.harvard.edu.

Other activities for the 40th anniversary include a special JNA issue which will have articles on the history of SNACC by Andrew Kofke, history of neuroanesthesia by Bill Lanier, and an update on scientific advances in neuroanesthesia by Jeff Pasternak and Bill Lanier.  Accompanying this will be an editorial by SNACC president, Ansgar Brambrink.

Articles about the anniversary this summer will be published in the newsletters of the ASA, Neurocritical care society, and AUA.  Look for them.

The meeting itself will have the Thursday evening before dedicated to the 40th anniversary with an overview of the past 40 years, discussion of the next 40 years and a session to honor the past presidents of SNACC.  Moreover, those attending will receive special memorabilia of the occasion in the form of USB memory sticks with the meeting agenda and information, SNACC 40th anniversary coffee mugs, and special 40th anniversary lapel pins.   It will be a memorable meeting.
