Reza goes to Parrot Jungle

2008: I went to Jungle Island (New name) and saw many of my old parrot and animals friends at the location. Click here to see the new and improved Jungle Island. Please don't get me wrong, I loved the old Parrot Jungle. It had its charm.

1998: I was fortunate enough to go to Parrot Jungle in Miami, Florida during March. For those who have not been there, it is a real visual and mental treat to visit the place and see so many birds (they claim 1100) in one place. I spoke with visitors from different countries at PJ, inquiring about similar locations in their respective countries; none exist w/ such magnificent magnitude.

I took over 500 photographs taken during my 2 day visit. Some were taken electronically via an apple QuickTake digital camera and others were taken using a Nikon N70 camera w/ a multitude of lenses. Not all of the pictures are perfect. It is difficult to take pictures of such dynamic birds as they have so much energy and will not sit still for you. Also please note that despite the large number of photographs I took, I did not cover all the birds. For example I did not take pictures of cockatiels even though they are represented there. For one thing I almost ran out of film, and also certain species did not interest me.

I have broken down the pictures into different categories based on the bird's species. Since I am not an ornithologist, I did not attempt to give precise names for each bird. For example I did not classify the eclectus as vosmaeri's even though I think that is what I saw.

Reza's Note on 11.9.98: visited the Jungle in early November: Things looked great, birds were glad to see me again. Staff friendly, grounds professional and once again a ethereal experience. I'll have alot more pictures once the 300 or so I took get printed and developed. Expect an update on later in November.

As far as I know there is no other site on the world wide web showing so many birds all at one place. If there is please let me know as I would love to see the pictures.
