Barrie Myers

I give below the flight reports of the flights I have made in March. I used

Real Weather for all of these flights. Even managed a week‚s vacation in

Lanzarote for a bit of sunshine!

>

FLIGHT HI300 NEW YORK JFK (KJFK) TO BOSTON LOGAN (KBOS)

Take off 1600 and at the gate at Boston at 1642.

Total time 42 minutes.

Aircraft 737. Fuel used 3584 lbs. Distance 162 miles, 184 miles flown.

This was an eventful flight with fairly high winds and turbulence on route.

Number two engine failed about 50 miles from Boston, but the 737 kept going

fine on the one engine, so landed safely. A small fuel problem, I believe,

soon fixed, and the return flight delayed by no more than 20 minutes.

>

FLIGHT HI301 BOSTON LOGAN (KBOS) TO NEW YORK JFK (KJFK)

Take off 1810 and on the blocks at New York at 1850.

Total time 40 minutes. Aircraft 737. Fuel used 4213 lbs. Distance 162 miles,

175 miles flown.

A nice flight, a little windy at New York which caused a slightly heavy

landing, but no problems.

>

FLIGHT HI683 AMSTERDAM (EHAM) TO MUNICH (EDDM)

Take off time 2130 and at the gate at Munich at 22.41.

Total time 1 hour 11 minutes.

Aircraft Airbus 320. Fuel used 7218 lbs. Distance 377 miles.

Uneventful flight, the only problem a failed anti icing device, so had to come

down through cloud at

Munich rather quickly to avoid icing.

FLIGHT HI311 ORLANDO (KMCO) TO NEW YORK (KJFK)

Take off time 1400 and at the gate at 1616.

Total time 2 hours 16 minutes.

Aircraft 757. Fuel used 32968 lbs. Distance 826 miles.

Nice flight, with no problems.

FLIGHT HI200 HONOLULU (PHNL) TO SAN FRANCISCO (KSFO)

Take off time 2030 and came to rest at the gate at 0140.

Total time 5 hours 10 minutes

Aircraft A340. Distance 1945 miles.

No problems on the flight at all. Very pleasant if somewhat tiring.

FLIGHT HI08 HILO (PHTO) TO HONOLULU (PHNL)

Take off time 2100 and at the gate at 2145.

Total time 45 minutes

Aircraft 737. Fuel used 4403 lbs. Distance 189 miles.

Landed on runway 04R in thunderstorm, but no problems on the flight.

FLIGHT HI09 HONOLULU (PHNL) TO HILO (PHTO)

Take off time 2300 and at the gate at Hilo at 2348.

Total time 48 minutes.

Aircraft 737. Fuel used 4807 lbs. Distance 189 miles.

Took off in a thunderstorm but no problems enroute until just before turning

on final approach I

received a fault warning of left gear malfunction. What could I do, I had to

land? Landed at lowest

landing speed and put her down very gingerly, gear collapsed as we lost speed,

but no other damage.

Managed to crawl off the runway to the gate under low power. Aircraft to be

repaired at Hilo, I believe.

Beautiful flight at low altitide for the tourists. The scenery is spectacular especially in Northern Kuaui near Princeville.

Xplane 4.67 is spectacular. Great clouds. New scenery by myeself I think is making a difference. Not perfect but better that what existed.

Some VFR flights had pretty rough weather. Full ILS landings on the lihue and Kahului airports due to unusually poor weather icluding windshear which is common in the letter. Lihue is always having rough weather.

Bruno Glaviano:

here is my flight report for march 1999:

HI52 Honolulu Molokai ATR 18 min. Nice flight back in the islands. Very unstable ATR from Air Mauritius, I wont fly it anymore2. HI53 Molokai Honolulu ATR 21 min. Long IFR departure and approach, precise flying. Our ATR is ok now.3.

HI72 Honolulu Kahului Lanai S340 42 min. Flight-test of the new Saab-340B: the airplane is comfortable and easy to handle. Elaborate IFR approach to LNY following a DME-Arc, I succeded to find the runway right in front of me, with just 2NM of visibility

HI73 Lanai Kahului Honolulu ATR 40 min. Nice flight back, smooth landings.

HI82 Honolulu Lihue Regional-Jet 19 min. A great airplane, very fast. A real perfomer.

HI83 Lihue Honolulu B737 19 min. Nice flight back with standard plane. Very smooth landing

HI96 Kona Kahului B737 20min. Nice early morning flight. I took-off at maximum weight, and thinking back I suspect that I landed above maximum landing weight! The controls where rather heavy Its not the best way to test a new, factory-fresh aircraft.

HI97 B737 22 min. Smooth planning and flying, this time

HI104c Lihue Kona Hi-Fi MD-87 45 min. To carry the maximum cargo, and not exceed maximum landing weight, I loaded 52.200 fixed payload and 5100lbs of fuel. To be honest, I could not replicate the precise instructions of the planes manual, I also had to do some in-flight refuelling to avoid the experience of gliding a 128000lbs MD-87! Either I have to train more on delicate flying (thats sure) or the Hi-Fi needs a redesign to 4.6x standards, or both. Wind shear enroute at FL310. This was the first flight with ver.4.67, I couldnt see the scattered sky because it was done at night.

HI111c Kona Honolulu A330-200 RR 31 min. Night IFR flight: Beach One departure from Kona, Airway V20, IFR approach and landing on rwy 4R at Honolulu. I carried 103.000lbs of weight and had enough fuel left, this time. Its fantastic that with 10NM visibility I can see the runway lights when they are only 2NM far away.

HI650 Milan Munich Vienna B757 1h 16 min. No problems, nice IFR training

HI685 Bruxelles Munich A320 59 min. IFR flight via airways J24, G104, B1 then landing on rwy 08L. At least, I can see the scattered skies. Very fine, X-Plane needed them.

HI186 Honolulu Place of refuge HU16 Albatross 52 min. Scuba-divers transport with direct sea-landing for their pleasure. Nice plane.

Total time: 7 hours 44 minutes

Segments flown: 16

Problems: none

Fun: great.

I also bid for these flights for next month: April 1999

, During the month I upgraded the old Performa 6360 160MHz by

installing a Sonnet L2 G3 card running at 300Mhz. The results have been phenomenal, equivalent to purchase of a new G3

300 but with the ATI Rage Pro and at a third of the cost!!!
