TOTAL 10 FLT HRS 14.4, 14.4 hr, Problems:
FLT. 2 SFO - ORD Inflight Engine Shutdown
1 minute after takeoff from SFO climbing through 6,000 number 2 engine lost
oil. Leveled off at 6,000 and shut the engine down and did a precautionary landing
back in SFO Runway 28R. All passengers safe. Landed without incident.
However during engine shutdown at level flight aircraft would not hold altitude so we dumped
fuel to lighten load. after a 5 minute struggle to hold altitude.
comment: someone need to tell Austin that planes usually handle ok on one engine. dont understand
the altitude problems an adverse yaw at lower power settings even after trimming extensively.
FLT. 2 - ORD arrival delay during a snowstorm (using real weather).
great experience doing that approach with winds gusting to almost 30 knots in snow.
pulled off a good landing.
, Hope you did not mind the extra flights and return trips
out of JFK to DCA. I did not bid for it but since it said
every 2 hours I took the liberty! Apologize if this is not
a proper procedure!
Keeping HI on top during the Thanksgiving holiday rush!

HI4 LONDON HEATHROW (EGLL) TO MILANO LINATE (LIML)
Take off from Heathrow at 1000 and at the ramp at Milan at 1143
Total time 1 hour 43 minutes, cruising height 15,000 feet
Aircraft 737, fuel used 18557 lbs, distance 546 miles
No problems
HI63 HONOLULU INTERNATIONAL (PHNL) TO HILO (PHTO)
Take off from Honolulu at 1200
Ten minutes into this flight I had an oil pressure warning. I turned back to Honolulu
and landed 25 minutes after take off. During the flight back I lost oil pressure
completely in number two engine. This flight was therefore delayed by two hours
as another aircraft was needed. We finally took off two hours late, see below.
HI63 HONOLULU INTERNATIONAL (PHNL) TO HILO (PHTO)
Take off from Honolulu at 1400 (two hours late) and at the ramp at Hilo at 1446
Total time 46 minutes, cruising height between 10,000 and 12,000 feet due to strong winds
Aircraft A320, fuel used 5752 lbs, distance 189 miles
Problem was with the first flight (see above) and the strong winds. There was a wind shear alert at Hilo but I decided to land and we got down OK, although it was not a good landing by any means. The passengers were pleased to get down in one piece after all the turbulence.
HI64 HILO (PHTO0 TO HONOLULU INTERNATIONAL (PHNL)
Take off from Hilo at 1500 and at the ramp at Honolulu at 1553
Total time 53 minutes, cruising height 12,000 feet
Aircraft A320, fuel used 6333 lbs, distance 189 miles
Runway 26L was given but the ILS did not work, so had to ask for new instructions to runway 08L and go missed approach. This accounts for longer time and higher fuel than usual.
HI80 HONOLULU INTERNATIONAL (PHNL) TO LIHUE (PHLI)
Take off from Honolulu at 0700 and at the ramp at Lihue at 0728
Total time 28 minutes, cruising height 10,000 feet
