HI402 Miami to Orlando 168NM flown in a 737. 38 minutes enroute. Wind shear on final at flare-out slammed the plane into the runway (no time for go around). Hard landing but no aircraft damage and no injured passengers. One segment.

 

HI404 Miami to Tampa 178NM flown in an HIA A320. 54 minutes enroute. Routine flight. One segment.

 

HI452 San Fransico to San Diego 393NM flown in an HIA A320. 76 minutes enroute. Decided to brush up on my VOR and ADF so I didn't use the GPS as usual. No problems. Didn't get lost! One segment.

 

HI400 Miami to Fort Meyers Southwest Regional 90NM flown in a HIA EMB. 43 minutes enroute. One segment.

 

HI315 New York to Miami. 954NM flown in an A340. 138 minutes enroute. Very nice flight until reaching south Florida, then rain. (As usual). No bad T-storms though and wind shear was not a factor. One segment.

enjoyment as conditions were so calm and clear.

00m00s - Low cloud ceiling & head wind 11kt for takeoff. Flew up to

8500ft agl to get above clouds but ATC pattern down kept us in the rain

clouds all the way down. Fire northwest of Barbars Point.

final.

Flight report for July 2000

 

HI 001 Honolulu San Francisco B747-400 PS1, 4 hours 14 min, 2100 NM. After

departing from runway 08R and following Molokai departure, I followed airway

R465 to CLUKK, then Big Sur 2 STAR to approach runway 28R where I landed

successfully. This is one of the flights that I prefer. I burnt 87200 lbs of

fuel, travelled at FL400 and used real weather for this nice flight.

HI 37 Kahului Lanai Honolulu Dash-8 100 37min 124NM. Nice flight between the

islands, with the excellent Dash-8 in Hawaiian livery

HI 56 Honolulu Molokai Kalaupapa Dash-8 100 20min 60NM. This time, between

Molokai and Kalaupapa, I had the time to retract gear and flaps, and extend

them again. A good training on plane hanlding.

HI 82 Honolulu Lihue A-320 22 min 106NM

HI 83 Lihue Honolulu A-320 26 min 94 NM. Two short flights along one of our

most popular routes. The performance of the A-320 Airbus is always

impressive, the weather was fine but with heavy winds that needed a lot of

fine-tuning on the controls by the captain.

HI 102 Honolulu Princeville Dash-8 Q400 26 min 119NM. Test flight of the

latest version of this excellent plane by Greg Hofer. Fast cruise at FL150,

then very easy landing on the short and narrow runway. Captain and

passengers fully satisfied.

HI 653 Paris Geneva Milan B747-400 (PS1) 1 hour 32 min. Nice IFR flight with

real weather. Full ATC support: I was too high before landing at Geneva, but

could lose altitude while performing two holdings over the last waypoint; no

problem landing in Milan since ATC directed me down to 2000ft well before

glide slope engagement.

HI 656 Milan Rome 747-400 PS1 53 min

HI 657 Rome Milan 747-400 PS1 58 min. This month I flew a lot with PS1, to

practice ATC use and correct altitudes for landing. The training proved to

be very efficient, and now I can master more of PS1's complexities.

HI 705 Bora Bora Tahiti A320 30 min 151NM. Fast flight, compared with the

usual turboprops. There are many passengers to carry, and they prefer our

Airbuses!

HI 706 Tahiti Bora Bora A320 27 min 144 NM. Interesting NDB approach,

correcting for the 12 deg magnetic variation; it's the first time that I

land at Bora Bora with a heavy! The runway is rather narrow, but long

enough.

HI 711 Bora Bora Tahaa DHC-2 Beaver amphibian, 24 min, 40NM. Durino the

flight, I also flew around Bora Bora for sight seeing, and practiced a

landing at Raiatea.

HI 712 Took-off from Hanamee bay, after the passengers' bathing in the

atoll, then flew around Tahaa and directed to Bora Bora for a conventional

landing on the runway.

HI 713 Bora Bora Rangiroa A320 41 min 261 NM. Another first landing with the

Airbus, the approach via the VOR is very easy, if you remember to correct

the runway heading (095) for the mag var (012): setting 083 on the VOR leads

you exactly aligned on the runway. It's wider than in Bora Bora, too.
