I worked hard trying to learn PS1 simlator. With help from fellow captains (w/o which it would not be possible), I was successful to takeoff and land at destination. A lot more to learn. A stressful but eventually satisfying month.

HI FLIGHT 203 -- A brand new (PS1.3) 747-400 fresh from fleet manager

Glaviano. Pre-flight began at 11:30 to allow time to program the FMC and

familiarize myself. We left the gate at 20:16 pm PST and take-off was at

12:27pm from runway 25R. Nearly a full cabin of passengers 14 first class,

a full business class and nearly 200 coach. Route plan called for 51000

kgs. The weather was bad at departure but we soon climbed above it to our

initial cruise at 36k, later climbing to 40K. We flew HI company route

LAXHNL7 -- a new one based on a QUANTAS route which brought us down over

MOLOKAI VOR. HNL was using 08l so we opted for a JULIE approach which took

us west of the airport before bringing us back to the east. ATC sent us all

over the place (lucky, no holds though) because it was raining with 3000

meter visibility. AUTOLAND due to marginal conditions (and pilot training)

at GATE 23 at 0:58 Zulu time for a total flight of 4 hrs 58 minutes. Burned

43000 kgs.

ROUTE WAYPOINTS (not including SID and STAR) BEFIN - DINTY - DUETS - DONER

HI FLIGHT 202 (PS1.3) 747-400. Preflight at 18:30 Zulu time. Doors closed

at 19:02, cleared for departure at 19:14 on Runway 08L. Manifest -- 15 1st

class, 60 business, 235 coach, 29000 kgs freight, 63234 kgs fuel. Our

flight plan HNLLAX2 called for a cruise at 35K with a step 39K. Initial

jetway waypoint EBBER. Final jetway waypoint EDSEL and descending from

there.

We ran into trouble about an hour in. Engine 4 showed a BLEED OVERHEAT,

which we eventually traced to a LEAK in the RIGHT BLEED DUCT. We followed

procedures -- turned off the #4 Engine Bleed Air Switch, turned off the

right isolation valve, and upon further review, turned the right Pack to the

A routing (the B was where the problem was located) Nonetheless the #4

ENGINE was still running too hot, so I turned autothrottle off and lowered

the N for #4 to under 50%. Anything over that and we were heading towards a

fire.

The rest of the flight was uneventful, except for the fact that controlling

speed without any auto control demands constant adjustments. The slightly

slower performance and the extra care in the descent added nearly 20 minutes

to the computer estimated flight time. We were down safely (autoland) and

at gate 23 at 00:35 Zulu for a total trip time of 5hrs 35 minutes. Burned

51000 kgs fuel.

HI FLIGHT #701 Aloha service from Tahiti to Moorea via a Pilateus PC-13.

Departed at 7:05 am. 2040 payload, 191 lbs fuel. Flight time was 9:30. Used

48 lbs.

HI FLIGHT #702 Aloha service from Moorea to Tahitii International via a

Pilateus PC-23. Full flight of vacationers going home. 2443 lbs with 18 of

fuel. Tower vectored us around so flight was a little longer. 12 Minutes, 44

seconds. Burned 64 lbs.

HI FLIGHT #705 Aloha 737 Service from Bora Bora to Tahitii. 6128 lbs fuel,

22887 manifest. Cruise at 15000 feet and vectored into Runway 04. In on

time with a total enroute of 41 minutes 24 seconds. Burned 4040 lbs of HI

gas.

HI FLIGHT #706 Aloha 737 Service from Tahitii to Bora Bora. I missed using

the new HI Airbus by one day! Loaded 6023 lbs jet grade. 22827 weight.

Crusied at 14k and managed a quicker trip back -- 38 minutes. We burned a

little less too 3878 lbs. At $3 a gallon that comes to...

HI FLIGHT # 707 with Island hopping service from Bora Bora to Maupiti in one

of Captain Glaviano's newest additions a Dash-8 with artwork to spare.

Flight covered 30 miles in 12 minutes. Sightseeing at no extra charge.

HI FLIGHT # 708 with Island hopping service from Maupiti back to Bora Bora.

In the "polynesian lady" Dash-8. I took a cue from Captain Glaviano, stayed

low and gave the passengers a little extra tour. It brought the trip up to

almost 20 minutes, but nobody seemed to mind, least of all me.

Hi FLIGHT # 709 with Island hopping service from Bora Bora to Raiatea, with

a quick stop at Huahine in my new favorite plane the Dash-8. We were 17

minutes on the first leg, dropped off a few passengers, and taxied back

right into our take-off roll. I got a little off course because I forgot to

correct for the deviation and was flying on pilotage for practice. But I

found the island, and we were down in an addition 14 minutes. The

passengers never knew any better

HI FLIGHT # 710. Now safely oriented in the Dash-8 we made the trip back to

the big(ger) island with a quick stop, where I did a full engine shutdown

this time. Our Raiatea to Huahine to Bora Bora trip totaled 34 minutes with

the stop. I can see why Bruno honeymooned out here. He did a real nice job

on this scenery!

HI FLIGHT # 650 - The new HAWIIAN INTERNATIONAL LIVERY Airbus A320! Pressure

gauge is still in European format, but what the heck we are in Europe.

Flight left a little late from Malpensa with 49862 lbs of passengers and

junk. Fuel was 11912 lbs, same as last month. I flew the same route as

well: Departure from 35 R and turned left before gradually climbing to

17,000 feet for a ride over the alps. Not a cloud in the sky. Approach via

the EURACH VOR and then flew ANDEC 08. We landed on Runway 08R. The flight

time to 55 minutes 34 seconds. We burned 4928 lbs fuel.

CONTINUATION -- Departed for Vienna runway 08R and flew KIRDI 3E to

LINZ and then to STOCKERAU to STEINHOF at the top of the final into Vienna

Runway 11. Cruise was 15k. Burned 5324 lbs of fuel. Flight time was 56:00

HI FLIGHT #651 with Aloha service from Vienna to Munich to Milan. Our

Airbus A320 tipped the scales at 44096 lbs of human/inanimate objects and

11641 lbs of fuel. Departed the usual Linz 4D, climbed at max rate and held

runway heading. At 12 miles to Wagram VOR we turn left to 210 and intercept

Fishamend VOR radial 270. Follow fo 10nm before turning to 300 and

intercepting 98 to LINZ. From LINZ to MOOSBURG and then followed the

MOOSBURG 08 arrival into Munich. Our cruise was 18k ft. Flight time 55

minutes.

CONTINUATION with tanks now at 10450 and 37241 payload. Tulsi 2Q departure,

climbing to 4000 ft and then turning to 221, intercepting MUNCHEN VOR and

then left to 181. Cross TULSI at 6000 ft, from there to cruise of 18K

direct to SARONNO r. Descend t to 4000ft, turn right to 190 degrees for

17nm then arc to Novara at the top of the final for Runway 35 r. At the

gate at 21:11.

Hi Flight # 450 737-300 From SFO to LAX. I am very happy to say to those

of you who remember what happened to me on this flight last month that this

flight was smooth sailing. The highlight for me is that I got to come in

over Simi valley and descend across Santa Monica (this is the area I fly

around as a private - looking up enviously as the jets descend) before

turning over downtown Los Angeles back to land on 25 R. We burned 5010 lbs

of fuel, and from Gate to Gate we were 53 minutes with no delays. (as if

that would ever happen in real life)

HI FLIGHT #652 -- From MILANO MALPENSA to GENEVA to PARIS CHARLES DE GAULLE.

Heading north, I did a variation on the BRUNO GLAVIANO route on r-173.

These trans-alps routes are my favorite in X-plane. I think everyone should

fly them, especially this one. We transitioned over lake Geneva at ST.

PREX, and from there you are on a 20 mile final to Geneva. The 33 minute

flight was too short for me.

CONTINUATION to PARIS. In 5.29 the scenery glitch on this flight is fixed so

I was able to fly DIJON to REIMS to MONTMEDY 2R approach. Cross BOURSONNE

at 8000, descend on course 271 then a left arc by PONTOISE to intercept the

final about 15 nm. 49 minute flight

HI FLIGHT #653 with aloha service from Paris to Geneva and home to Milan.

Weather was forecast ovc with 1 mile visibility in Geneva, and yet clear

and unlimited in Milan. Go figure. The approach in the Airbus is really

nice, and I dropped out of the clouds right on line for 05. The flight was

nearly 53 minutes.

ON to Milan. As we crossed the alps, the sky went to scattered and then

clear, which meant I could fly the BRUNO GLAVIANO VFR approach. I picked it

up near lake Magiore and followed it straight into the seldom used runway

17. The direct clearence gave me a flying time of 27 minutes!

HI Flight 70 -- intercity service from Honolulu to Lanai. I flew the OPIHI 2

departure, transitioned at OPIHI and the followed 278 direct to Lanai City.

The 66nm flight in the ATR took 28 minutes. Windy (surprise) on arrival.

Does anybody know how you can do a forward slip in this sim?

Hi FLIGHT 71 -- intercity service from Lanai to Honolulu. I flew direct

from Lanai into Honolulu and then followed the JULIE 4D arrival vaguely from

memory of PS 1. Descended out around ALANA and into 04. It was a 35 minute

flight trying to do the STAR. Windy again.

Hi FLIGHT 72 -- island hopper service from Honolulu to Lanai with a stop in

Maui (Kahului) I think the Dash-8 may be a better plane for these flights,

it handles better in the wind and there is a lot of it on these flights. I

used the Molokai 4 departure and from MOLOKAI direct to Kahului. It was

clear and windy. The flight was 27 minutes. CONTINUED -- after 15 minute

turnaround and flew straight down v24 to Lanai in a quick 14 minutes.

Hi Flight 73 -- island hopper service from Lanai to Honolulu via Maui. The

short leg was flown on the 64 radial of the Lanai VOR and by the time we

got vectored around for Maui with the winds at near 20kts, and a crosswind

component of 15kts, it made the flight last a preposterous 21 minutes!

CONTINUED -- better late than dead -- on for Honolulu and requested a runway

change due to the winds. The idiot wanted me to land on 26 with a 15kt

tailwind. I chose 08 and the headwind thank you. 33 minutes.

HI Flight 74 -- the "which way am I going" express from PHNL to PHNY with a

minor detour to Lihue! I think somebody needs to look at this route. It is

a waste of jet fuel this way. I flew the KEOLA 2 departure and transition

at KEOLA for the 291 radial of KAUAI and then the 328 radial of Lihue. The

flight took 31 minutes in the 737. I burned 3400lbs approx.

CONTINUED

from Lihue, flew directly over PHNL (hint) and then into Lanai for a flying

time of 51 minutes. The winds were blowing at Lanai -- can you imagine

that? It's a lot easier landing there in the 737 than it is in the ATR. (I

think x-plane blows the planes around too much)

HI FLIGHT 75 -- the "wrong way Reza" local from Lanai to Honolulu with a

brief excursion to Lihue. The flying time for leg #1 was 54 minutes. For

leg #2 it was 35 minutes, again bad runway choice at PHNL. Got a wind shear

warning, but no issues.

HI FLIGHT #3 -- A PS1 flight from Chicago to London. Dispatch confirmed we

had 16 First class passengers, 62 business, 220 coach. We were gassed up

with 97000 kgs of fuel! Our great circle route took us up over the great

lakes to an intital cruise of 33,000 with a step to 37,000 out over the

north atlantic. Pre-flight began 30 minutes before the hour and we left the

gate EARLY! Weather was sloppy in Chicago, but we climbed out of it and

settled in for a long, boring flight. Winds aloft weren't as fierce as

usual, so we were a little over 7 hrs into Heathrow center. The weather

there was CAT III IFR, so we had to hold south west of the CPT VOR for

about ten minutes before making a AUTOLAND approach into the airport. We

burned 82000 kgs of fuel. Our flight time was 7hrs 41 minutes with all the

holds.

Bruno Glaviano

 Flight report for May 2000

HI 5 Milan New Dehli 747-400PS1.3 7 hours 7 minutes, 3400NM. Go-around at Dehli for heavy winds, repeated approach then successful landing.

HI 6 New Dehli Hong Kong 747-400 PS1.3 4 hours 18 min 2022 NM. I don't have approach plates for VHH, so I arrived too high for a correct landing. I then practised a couple of go-around, losing altitude and then landing correctly. Uncomfortable for the passengers, but great practice for the captain!

HI 37 Kahului Lanai Honolulu Dash-8 Q100 31 min, 106 NM. VFR to Lanai, then IFR approach to runway 26L. Real weather (fine).

HI 38 Honolulu Molokai Lanai Dash-8 Q100 36 min, 126 NM. Test flight of the brand new "Vahine", with IFR routes to Molokai and an elaborate DME-arc VOR approach to runway 20 at Kahului. The plane handles very well, and forgave some errors: approaching Molokai on the taxiway instead of the runway, and taking off with the speed brake extended!

HI 40 Honolulu Molokai Hana Dash-8 Q100 36 min, 128 NM. Correct aligning this time at Molokai, then panoramic IFR route to Hana via airway V15-22, then tight VFR approach and landing at Hana.

HI 56 Honolulu Molokai Kalaupapa Dash-8 Q100 20 min 60 NM. Very interesting "jump" from Molokai to Kalaupapa, I kept gear and flaps out.

HI 193 Auckland antartica overflight Auckland 747-400 PS1.3 11 hours 25 min, 5335 NM. Incredible and exciting flight.

HI 660 Milan Athens Airbus A-340 2 hours 1 min 874 NM. Quite a flight! Full IFR, testing the factory-fresh A340. The plane is really heavy, but powerful, fast and handles well at VERY low speeds.

HI 711 Bora Bora Tahaa DHC-2 Beaver 16 min 28 NM landing in beautiful Haamene bay

HI 712Tahaa Bora Bora DHC-2 Beaver 22 min 40 NM During the flight I also performed a landing at Raiatea, and a panoramic tour around Bora Bora before landing.

HI 715 Tahiti Rangiroa Tikehau Mataiva Dash-8 Q100 1 hour 12 min, 276 NM: Lovely flight between the islands, and interesting landings on the small runways of the remote atolls.

Total time flown: 28 hours 44 minutes

Total flights: 12, segments flown 19

As always I had great fun and relax, added new experience to my virtual flying, and passed many great hours. I wont repeat this, but it's a great feature of our airline.

HI105c Deadstick landing at PHNY due to the pilots failure to load sufficient fuel onto the aircraft, By the time I realized the problem I had alread flown too far to turn back and wasn't any closer to PHMK then I was Lanai but I knew I would never make it to the airport without running out of fuel. I lost both engines at and glided the aircraft 9 miles and set it down at Lanai.

HI111c Missed Approach at PHKO, I did a go around and set up another approach and landed without any further problems., Submit

H2 (747); KSFO to KORD

Had vacuum failure immediately after departing KSFO RWY 28R. Declared an emergency and returned to KSFO. Plane was fixed and departed KSFO RWY 28R with no further incidents. Flight time was 3 hrs 30 min. Wind shear alert at KORD. Was given RWY 4R but requested 32L due to wind 30/15 G21. Landed with faster airspeed (compensate for gust and possible wind shear), smooth landing.

HI300 (MD-83); KJFK TO KBOS

Flight time was 38 min. Departed RWY 4R from KJFK and arrived on RWY 15R at KBOS. Poor visibility at both KJFK and KBOS. Boston had 300 overcast with 1 mile visibility. Smooth landing.

HI 302 (MD-82); KJFK TO WASHINGTON (NAT)

Flight time was 42 min. Departed RWY 31 L at KJFK and landed on RWY 30 at KDCA. Weather conditions at KDCA were rough. Half mile visibility, 1000 overcast with rain. Had to maintain 8,000 msl 20 DME from OTT VOR rather than the usual 2,500 on our way to the initial approach fix to RWY 30 due to a strong thunderstorm. Had to descend at a steeper rate in order to intercept the ILS at 1,600 msl. Although the final approach segment was bumpy, we are happy to report a smooth landing.

HI451 (737); KLAX TO KSFO

Flight time was 52 min. Awesome visibility. Departed RWY 24 L at KLAX and landed on RWY 28R.

HI452 (A320); KSFO TO SAN DIEGO

Flight time was 67 min. Awesome visibility! Smooth ride. Departed RWY 10L at KSFO and landed on RWY 9 at KSAN.

HI65 (B737); PHNL TO PHTO

Flight time was 38 min. Departed RWY 4R at PHNL and arrived on RWY 26 at PHTO. Great visibility, however, the ride was more bumpy than normal. Seatbelt sign was on for the entire flight. Awesome landing at PHTO.
